The
Cote de Nuits
(coat
de nwee)
is
home to a whole host of the really big-time names of
the wine world and most of these babies are going to
have stratospheric landed prices in India. The grape
grown here is largely Pinot Noir, with a little bit
of Chardonnay. Concentrated in the villages of this
district are all the red wine Grand Crus of Burgundy
except one (Corton). There are 24 such appellations
and these are the names which appear to wine lovers
in their dreams. Gevrey-Chambertin, Chambolle-Musigny,
Vosne-Romanee, the historic Clos de Vougeot and Nuit
St Georges are just a few of the really big names. Pray
that the import duties come down and we can all some
day hope of tasting these wines.
